Iron - Carappee Hill Project |
|
| |
|
| The Company is developing its Eyre Peninsula iron ore assets within the Company’s Carappee Hill Project (EL 3711).
During 1991, mapping of ironstones by WMC centred on the Jamieson Tank Prospect located in the southwest portion of the Carappee Hill tenement.
Follow up drilling by WMC in early 1993 intersected multiple near surface narrow lenses of manganiferous clays and occasional massive manganese oxides and returned iron assays in the range of 5.8% to 57%.
A recent close spaced airborne survey flown by Archer has revealed a number of magnetic features that the company believes to be very exciting(see figure below).
The strong linear magnetic features within EL3711 appear to be associated with the Hutchinson basement and in particular with the Lower and Upper Middleback Jaspilite. This jaspilite is a host for numerous iron ore deposits on the Eyre Peninsula. A number of the strong regional linear magnetic signatures correspond with linear gravity gradients.
The potential for hematite on the Eyre Peninsula beyond the existing production areas of the Middleback Ranges has been demonstrated by recent announcements by Centrex who have reported a probable reserve of 7.6 Mt @ 59.9% Fe at the Wilgerup deposit. In addition, the historical exploration results reported by WMC from Waddikee tenement held by Monax Mining Limited directly to the north and west of EL3711 indicate there is good potential for hematite in the direct vicinity of Carappee Hill.
