Base Metals - Wilmington Project

The Wilmington Project is located close to existing major infrastructure, being only 20km NW from the deep water port of Port Pirie and 35km east of Port Augusta.

The tenements were selected for:

  • their exposure to the Tapley Hill Formation and the Angepena Formation, which contain black shales and limestone, which are important for copper mineralisation; and

  • the presence of secondary surface copper mineralisation, which has been historically mined (the Spring Creek Copper Mine was active from 1860 to 1910), with potential for primary mineralisation at depth.

In 1967, 3 lines of Induced Polarisation (IP) were conducted over and adjacent to the mine by Australian Blue Metal Pty Ltd. A number of anomalies were discovered, these have yet to be investigated. Three diamond holes were drilled in 1969, all drilled towards the east. One hole (1/29) intercepted two strata bound Cu mineralised intervals, 3m @ 3% Cu from 132.6m and 6m @ 2.3% Cu from 146.3m.

It was interpreted that EW faulting may be the main control factor on the mineralisation and thus the Cu mineralisation is viewed as not fully tested.
